The City of Concord has announced its schedule for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, January 15. In observance of this important holiday, the City's government offices will be closed.

Residents are advised that garbage, recycling, bulky, and yard waste collection will operate on a one-day delay. It is important for residents to place their carts at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on the day of their collection to ensure proper pickup.

To stay informed about the city's holiday schedule, residents can visit the official website at concordnc.gov/whatsmyday. They can download the 2024 Recycling & Bulky Waste calendar, which includes the full list of city-observed holidays for the year.

In addition to the government offices, the City of Concord recreation centers will also be affected by the holiday. On Monday, January 15, the recreation centers will follow holiday hours and be open from 12-6 p.m.

However, there are some facilities that will be closed on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The David Phillips Activity Center, Lake Fisher, and ClearWater Arts Center & Studios will be closed for the day.

As we commemorate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., it is important to reflect on his contributions to civil rights and social justice. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and justice in our society.

In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

The City of Concord encourages residents to take this day to engage in acts of service and participate in events that honor the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Let us come together as a community to celebrate the ideals of equality, justice, and compassion that Martin Luther King, Jr. championed throughout his life.
